Climate Change is now being felt in greater and smaller ways in Cornwall as well as elsewhere in the world.  Climate Change is both a threat and an opportunity.  REOC aims to take Cornwall forward by developing local energy resources to meet its obligations to reduce environmental impact as well as developing intellectual capital to exploit the business opportunities presented.

Another major factor is the need to move Cornwall towards sustainable development. Cornwall’s Objective One programme provides the opportunity to develop the local renewable energy business cluster.  This has the advantage of improved local economic activity as well as the development of wider sustainability.

Our Vision for Cornwall, in the context of global and local responsibility, is to have a vibrant renewable energy sector satisfying a significant proportion of local energy needs, and to be internationally renowned as a place of inspiration, expertise and quality in renewable energy and its promotion.

The two main aims of REOC are:

Renewable energy development: appropriate and consultative development of renewable energy sources which

• satisfy local needs wherever possible
• are in tune with local environmental and landscape issues
• meet or exceed targets for renewable energy
• involve all local sectors in taking renewable energy forward
• encourage a range of plant and project types

Renewable energy business cluster development: by

• growing the local market for Cornish Renewable Energy
• promoting Cornish Renewable Energy companies at national, European and global levels
• establishing Cornwall as a Centre of Expertise for Renewable Energy
• making more venture capital and risk finance available
• growing the contribution from educational institutions towards the intellectual development of the sector
